Warming yourself up this winter with a soothing cup of tea can be a great sleep aid, and the best part is, tea is all natural!

There are many different types of tea that can help you to wind down, relax and have a peaceful night sleep. Here are our top 3 recommended teas for sleep and relaxation:

1. Natural banana tea

You must be thinking ‘banana tea?’ Banana-infused tea is actually a great help for insomnia and for light sleepers who frequently wake during the night.

Fun fact: Banana peels are rich in potassium and magnesium. When you drink banana tea it will provide a similar effect to taking magnesium supplements, in that it can help your muscles and blood vessels relax while reducing the likelihood of restless legs.

How to make it?

  1. Boil water.
  2. Cut off both ends of one banana and place in water.
  3. Boil for 10 minutes.
  4. Pour water through a colander and into a mug with a sprinkle of cinnamon
  5. Drink one hour before bed.

2. Lavender tea

One cup of lavender tea is all you need to unwind and relax for a blissful night’s sleep. The smell of lavender can be overpowering, but its medicinal properties are amazing. Lavender tea can help ease the effects of bronchitis, asthma and colds (simply rub on to the chest area). It also helps to reduce coughs, fever, it can heal wounds, cuts and sores, and it is much safer to use than over the counter medications for children and adults.

How to make it?

  1. Put 3 tablespoons of fresh lavender flowers in a teapot (or 1 ½ tablespoons dried lavender flower)
  2. Add 2 cups of boiling water.
  3. Steep for 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Pour into cups, straining if necessary to remove the flower buds.
  5. Serve Lavender flower tea with honey and sliced lemon.

3. Ginger and turmeric tea

Ginger, do you love it or hate it? Either way, you can’t complain about its amazing anti-viral powers. Imagine drinking a tea that not only helps you to sleep, but prevents you from getting sick, works as an anti-inflammatory and has great medicinal properties. Follow the simple steps below and you will be left with a fantastic sleep remedy with incredible benefits.

How to make it?

  1. Peel a 5cm piece of fresh ginger root and cut it into thin slices.
  2. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  3. Once it is boiling, add the ginger, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder and half of a squeezed lemon
  4. Cover and reduce to a simmer for 15 minutes, whisking occasionally.
  5. Strain the tea.
  6. Add honey to taste.

Having a good sleep is as important as a balanced diet and exercise, if not more. Try the above teas to experience a relaxed, healthy, and overall better sleep.
