What Is The NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to help support Australians with a significant and permanent disability as well as their families and carers.
The NDIS is not income tested meaning that the support a participant receives is determined by their functional disability rather than their income. They are also not required to pay co-contribution fees which can offer the families who care for them, the peace of mind knowing their loved ones will receive the supports they need.
To be eligible for the NDIS, a checklist of questions is used:
- Are you aged between 7 and 65?
- Do you live in Australia and have Australian residency?
- Do you usually need support from a person because of a permanent and significant disability?
- Do you use special equipment because of a permanent and significant disability?
- Do you need some supports now to reduce your future needs?
